The power line I plan to have us run I've ran many times and even been told it's legal by both locals and DNR in the area. BUT I want to make sure that that has not changed.
I would get it in writing myself or atleast a name of the person who tells you it's legal..lol. From what I have always been told, the land the power lines are on is the property of the energy company and have been deemed illegal to ride on.

Oh I have a contact name and #..

And your statement is only 1/2 true.

There is several area's with in Crawford and Kalkaska County's that are season/primitive roads. It's state that ALL are illegal as a general rule of thumb.. But when you ask about it you do find that some are legal.

I missed the call back from the DNR and will be talking to them tomorrow. What my wife was told is there is a area a few miles long where I want to go again that is legal to travel. BUT it has some rules and special requirements. Not sure what that means but will be finding out.

If I find it's more head ach than it's worth that part of the trip will be moved over to another area. But this is why I'm doing the route planner now. I already know the 1 full day in Camp Grayling is legal and I have the GPS tracks the Hummer run used to base our area to play on.

Just the DNR calls are to set up a road/travel day for seasonal/primitive roads up in the area..

Iv grown very sick of large group events my self . Never attended the blessing though .

Iv only been wheeling with my clubs for awhile now .

The adventure runs iv been doing are fun , only a few rigs . No smart alicks or dumb alicks either .

YA, I'm still not 100% sure how many for this run will show up..

When the planning started it was 6 rigs...

If all that are saying they'll be there show we might have to split into 2 groups just to make good time and have fun.

We'll see how it goes though as it gets closer..

Default Re: Traverse City / Kalkaska / Grayling Trail run (May 14-16)

I just talked with the DNR.

The segment of the "power Line" is a access/seasonal road. This area is a dividing line between private and state forest area's. I was also told that, that area in Kalkaska County has been well marked. All that is not marked closed or burmed is open..

So the Friday of the start of that weekend I'll be aiming to get up there very early so I can pre-run that area to make sure. The DNR officer I spoke with is keeping my # with him and will be going out and doing some scouting that area this week as well for us.

*side note* I'm finding if you just ask the DNR can be very helpful..

Well it's been asked for some details about this trip. So I'll lay out some requirments and a day planner here. On the 14th I'm hoping to be checked into teh camp ground before noon so I can get a pre-run in a Sundays run.

#1 Rule - NO Alcohol ON THE TRAIL. If you have alcohol on the trail you will be ask and required to leave the group. NO EXCEPTIONS.....
Drink at camp not the trail.

Requirements:
-at least 1 tow point ( a axle is not a tow point)
-your own spare parts
-your own tools
-CB or hand held radio
-your own camping gear
-your own plans for meals other than Saturday night

As it gets closer we'll start talking about how we want to handle a pot-luck for Saturday night

Days planning (this is a rough guild not a set in stone plan):
Friday 14th - Meet and greet at the camp ground, vehicle inspection for tow points, if most all are there by sun down posible short nite run.

Saturday 15th - Breakfast, be heading out to the trail some time between 9 and 10AM, Full day of trails and fun in and around Camp Grayling, we'll make a gas stop but plan for lunch on the trail, bring a fishing pole if you want so during a break and/or lunch if we can find water you can drowned a worm or 2, return to camp some time between 8 and 10pm. Group-Pot-Luck-dinner

Sunday 16th - Morning pack up to leave camp, hit the road by around 10am. Road trip over towords Kalkaska/Travers City area to have some fun on seasonal roads and just plan see the area, Split off to head home around 5pm, If you need to take off early no prob..

If anyone knows anything about these areas and woudl liek to have the group check it out, feel free to ask about fitting it in. While in Camp Grayling IF you see something and want to try it/check it out speak up. I'm sure we're all looking for fun and not everyone can see everything. This trip is about fun, learning, testing your self and your rig. Rules are simple and requirments are basic.
